Personal Statement
After studying painting in London I spent a lot of time in Greece, Turkey and Italy, where I drew a great deal and was able to develop further my interest in Classical and Renaissance painting and sculpture. Returning to the UK in the mid-90s, I joined several South London life drawing groups, met a number of inspiring painters and models, and began working almost exclusively from the figure.
Since moving to South Wales in 2003 I have worked from life in my studio in Barry.
Although primarily interested in the nude, I consider portraiture to be an increasingly important aspect of my work. I try to reflect the characters, ideas and moods of my models in the pictures I make, as well as impart something of the stillness and silence that working from life involves. |
