“Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” Henry David Thoreau. The act of fishing draws humankind towards water and its waves. Like a magnetic pulse, the attraction to sinuous motion; the pull of the tides, can be a source of peace. Horacio Cardozo’s “Red Boat” exemplifies how still water can induce a meditative state and it can be surely no mistake that fishermen became disciples in the well-known parable. “Lakeside” by Freshie Freshie is another artwork that preserves the synergistic moment of marriage between water and vegetation. Such perfection is often the disguise for a search for calm surroundings Alternatively, to catch a fish is often borne of basic necessity for sustenance and the intensity of concentration portrayed in the black and white photographs of Rami Rimon’s “Night Fishing” and Raymond Irons’ “Deep Sea Fishing” series is proof of the determination that these seekers possess.
