In 1967, David Hockney painted one of his most recognizable paintings-“The bigger splash” imputing the traditional iconology of Four Elements into modern art. In European art, Water plays a significant role as a symbol of purification as well as the beginning of a new life. On the other hand, this element was perceived as dangerous and unpredictable, which finds the reflection in Jung’s theory that water is an image of the subconscious mind.

Although we wean off thinking about water in a symbolic way, we still believe in the important role of water in shaping our everyday life. Risks posed by the technical progress forcing us to the careful usage of the most important substance in the world. It is possible that art can help us in our struggles?
