What grey lacks in colour intensity, it makes up for in terms of atmosphere. Often used in conjunction with sharp accents of colour, artists love to make use of grey to convey their visual message. But is it really a colour one would associate with desire? Artists express their desire in a broader sense: a desire for the visual joy of picturing the world itself. So here we present fifty paintings in all shades of grey imaginable! Gail Altschuler uses it in her highly patterned “Notes from the Sketchbook”; Albert Lentacker finds it on his “Winter walk” and it is also there in Darko Alexander’s “London Streets.”
