“I am neither of the East not the West, no boundaries exist within my breast.” Rumi What is “East”? Londonart prides itself on being made up of artists from around the globe and geophysical “East” depends on where you are standing! However, the cultural significance of the all-pervasive thought and imagery from South Asia cannot be underestimated. Michael Coxon’s muted washes deliver sensitive depictions of rice fields and urban Tokyo youth whilst Tomomi Maruyama chooses to characterize Japanese street scenes with a unique colour palette of greys and luminescent brights. While Teresa Poole and Jay Walker opt for metallic surfaces and more traditional symbols of Geishas and Zen Buddhism, Daisuku Kawada composes day-glo, op art, pop art creations.
