“My old grandmother always used to say, summer friends will melt away like summer snows, but winter friends are friends forever.” – George R.R. Martin.Once again that time of the year is well on the way, autumn is upon us and winter is nearly here. The trees are losing their leaves, and the winter coats are taken out the closets. Winter brings a unique opportunity for artists, with the snow, bare tree’s and endless rain the landscape is changed and the canvas can filled with an array of Winter colours. Oleg Riabchuck shows us the wonder that is an early ‘Winter Morning’, the sun slowly rises creating wonderful shadows in the surroundings which glisten off the snowy white ground and shimmer off the frozen stream. Sturla Strand demonstrates how harbours and small fishing towns can come to a standstill during the winter month in ‘Contrasts’, we see a small fishing boat neglected and filled with snow while the port is empty of boats and frozen over.
