Still life is often thought by many to be simply the painting of fruit in a bowl, observing all the small intricate details of each different segment and piece of the bowl of fruit. However, great imagination and personality can be poured on to the canvas in still life.This very point is shown by Dani Humberstone, she takes the simple idea of fruit in a bowl and transforms it, giving us different dimensions with many small details to her work, Dani creates two paintings on one canvas using her fruit as small canvases. Gabriel Bodnariu’s work again draws us away from the norm with his artwork ‘coca-cola’. Using an animal’s skull as a canvas, Gabriel creates a still life sculpture that is very unique, with rather shocking imagery when one begins to imagine the political and environmental issues that this simple artwork brings about.
