“If I had to choose a religion, the sun as the universal giver of life would be my god.” – Napoleon. We often take the sun for granted, that it will rise every morning and set every night. It is held up as a thing of magnificence, a great blazing fireball millions of miles away, the giver of life, all things grow under its glow and without it humanity would be plunged into eternal darkness. Artists have always tried to portray the beauty of the sun as the colours it creates are almost magical. It can turn the sky a radiant golden colour mixed with a dark red, as shown by Roger Colson. The sun even has the power to change the colour of the sea, giving it a glowing radiance and unpredictable feel as depicted by Samiran Sarker; or it can simply be bathed in for days on end, as painted by Peter Rodulfo. And it can break through dark clouds and once again bring hope and happiness to people, as Michelle Gibbs paints.
