Having been caught up in the spectacle of the Olympic Games in the past few days, we offer our congratulations and admiration to all those athletes who have put in so much dedication to reach the top of their game. Whilst their ultimate aim is the gold medal, we find that works in gold are slim on Londonart. We do however have a great selection of work in bronze, as is showcased in this week’s exhibition. Many of the works in this traditional material hark back to the poise, strength and elegance of the human body, reminiscent of the idealisation that is celebrated by ancient Greece, ideals of physical perfection that underpinned their art and their invention of the games.
