So own up, who’s never been seduced by lips?The allure of the lips has been studied by anthropologists and other scientists who will tell you that in evolutionary terms there is a correlation between lips and oestrogen levels signifying fertility, but all us artists would rather believe in the sensuous and romantic nature of the lips and the kiss. We like Shelley’s succinct observation that “Soul meets soul on lovers’ lips”.But then we also like Thomas Carlyle’s advice – “If you are ever in doubt as to whether or not to kiss a pretty girl, always give her the benefit of the doubt.”
