“There is geometry in the humming of the strings, there is music in the spacing of the spheres.”Pythagoras Geometry: measuring the earth.Throughout the centuries, people have felt the need to make marks upon their landscape, whether by lines drawn in the sand or by notches on stick or stone. Geometry remains an endless source of imagery for artists today: the composition of basic shape, line and form presented in endless combinations. Often constrained within the canvas support, cut off and isolated from wider life, they function as a focal point for deep concentration or extended meditation. For Lorna Wilson it mirrors what’s within, whilst Joe Ford perceives it externally on the metro. The Tate Sisters’ repeated forms have humorous connotations whilst William Dick’s painted structures are distilled from ancient Celtic references.
