With the stresses and strains of everyday life, it is all too easy to look inwards not outwards, yet, it is nature that teaches us how to retain perspective. With the sky so vast, the air so fresh and the ground so wild, we pass mountains that tower above us and, for a very rare moment, we remain the only vertical framed amongst a mass of horizontals. Slowly but surely, our problems that once paralysed us evaporate like rain into clouds of insignificance and we breathe the fresh mountain air, cleansing our minds. Highlands and islands are lands of exploration and the artists take us down rugged heather pathways, cruise us down serene ski-slopes and help us pass hesitantly under dark foreboding skies; coming to rest by tranquil lakes where the gentle lapping water calms and soothes us into stillness.
